Finishing Processes

Electroplating: Plating process that uses electrical current to coat an object with a thin layer of metal material. This deposition of a layer of metal material provides the desired properties of wear resistance, corrosion protection, and creates aesthetic properties that the surface originally lacked. Nickel, chrome, and copper are the most commonly electroplated metals. Electroplated finishes manufactured by Brasstech (other than drains) are warranted for ten (10) years from the date of purchase by the original purchaser. The exception to this is Polished Chrome (26) which is warranted as long as the original purchaser owns their home.

Powder Coating: Coating process that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder material that does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid form. The coating is applied electro-statically and cured in an oven which allows the coating to flow to form a 'skin' that is tougher than conventional paints. Powder coated finishes manufactured by Brasstech (other than drains and rustic finishes) are warranted for ten (10) years.

Lacquer Coating: Clear or colored varnish that when cured will form a hard, durable finish. These coatings can have a matte or gloss sheen. Lacquer provides a durable, clear coating over antiqued finishes such as English Bronze (07), Weathered Brass (03W), and Antique Brass (06). Lacquer coated finishes manufactured by Brasstech are warranted for ten (10) years from the date of purchase by the original purchaser.

Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD): Process in which a vacuum chamber is used to deposit thin layers of film onto a particular surface. PVD finishes resist corrosion, tarnishing, and discoloration. PVD finishes manufactured by Brasstech (other than drains) are warranted as long as the original purchaser owns their home.

Living Finishes: Finish that is designed to change over time. Living finishes have no protective coating and may show signs of wear in areas of greater use and will be darker in less used areas. The color and tone of the finish will be unique and change over time thus creating the desired character for this type of finish. Living finishes manufactured by Brasstech have no warranty.
